I guess with LT77 + V8 you'll be having to fit a defender front end? The LT77 and R380 (even with stubby bell-housing) are 100mm longer than a series box so with an 88" series, the rear prop-shaft is to short to take 100mm out, so you have to move everything forward 100mm, this means no more series front end.
I've looked into this in the past, and there's no getting away from it. So for mine I have a 3.9 Serp V8 with standard late S3 gearbox and Fairey overdrive, I've been running it for years like this with no issues.
There is more to the adapter kit than just the adapter plate it's self when fitting a V8 to a Landy gearbox. Depending on the conversion kit, (mine is a Phillips Milner) you also have a spigot adapter that bolts on the crank and usually have to grind about 10-15mm off the end of the crank.
