as above and possibly
weak/broken detent springs on 1st/2nd selecor fork shaft
worn selector fork/gear
loose rear mainshaft nut

Get it looked at.

mine jumped out of 3rd and then 2nd as well, as the box needs to be lifted up through the middle of the landy, i didn't want to spend loads just to check and replace parts in the box. sometimes it can last 1000's of miles before it gets so bad you cant drive it, or it breaks.

the mainshaft broke after about 3000 miles, now having to fit a new box, decided on a new one instead of a recon one.

cheers

if yer got an ex mod one yer can pull it out from underneath, as the x/member is bolted on

i can't get into first easily, find second and it jumps out of second and third on overrun. I have been advised to look at springs and balls- i havent as i am scared to.....................

Slob; thx, good info.

Ciderman; sounds like mine! Definately needs looking at ASAP! My mainshaft broke, but it did leave me 1st and reverse to get to a suitable place off the road. I believe they're linked together.

Or ensure you have good breakdown cover.

Cheers, Mark
