Hi, I as driving around the Peterbourgh show off road course and got cross axeld.I then shifted between reverse and second and the gear lever jammed, wouldn't shift into any gear and wouldn't shift from low to high, a nice Marshall towed me backwards out of the way which required some effort in his Disco. Then everything sprang back to normal?, I drove it home 50 miles, it seemed ok but I've lost confidence in it, do you think that itl be ok or is somthing bad about to happen? Is there anything that I can check?. Thanks Myles

Sounds like that the cross-axle put a lot of strain on the gear train, possibly also the gearboxes and when you shifted something 'got caught' .. when it was towed backwards it released the tension and all sorted itself out.

Congrats, you have a rare self-mending Landy .. :)

I concur with @tottot .. ;) I'd also look at the engine/gearbox/transfer box chassis mounts and change them if any cracks are found.

I agree with all the points above - don't loose confidence in it though - series gearboxes are inherently simple, and, even if it has to come out due to some bits being evident in the oil .... they are usually easily fixed.

If it is the series in your avatar, then SIII 1st and 2nd synchro hubs are a known weakness .....

Seriously, I'd be grateful it didn't go into "limp" mode and require a great mass of sensors replaced, £hundreds , possibly the wiring loom £Many  etc., .... and the fault is still there :eek::D

Good luck :)

Thanks, it is the one in my avatar, it apparently has a 2a box in it with no synchro on 1st and 2nd? If that's right? And a it has a 200tdi.
