Hi everyone,

I'm about to update the tyres on my series 3 which i use about 50/50 on road / off road. Most of my road trips are short local ones carrying materials for building work etc and are quite infrequent.
I have been looking at the Greenway Anaconda and was wondering if anyone had any views on them or if anyone could recomend another suitable mud plugger type tyres.

Cheers
Joe

I will be getting 235/85 X 16 for my series 3 SWB...

The ones i will be putting on are Colways M/T's, been recommended by most on here, so time will tell....

If you are looking at new rims, I have 130 rims on mine. Fit beautifully, allow slightly wider tyres for peat bog plugging where there ain't no bottom! No change on turning circles or anything straight replacement.

Not recommending or warning, just seemed possibly relevant... ;)

Cheers for that,
I have the defender type split rims which are really good. They allow for a slighty wider tyre too and look good.
I've had the Colway MT before and yeah they are a good tyre but is seems that for a few quid more I could get a more aggresive off road tyre.
I was hoping someone may have got them fitted and could let me know how they behaved on and off road.
Cheers
Joe

I've read in quite a few 4x4 mags, that MT tires wear out quicker than AT ones, does anyone think this is right.
Hope you get the ones you want.

Hi Guys,

Generally any MT tyre will wear quicker than an AT. The reason is that on an MT there is less rubber on the road, so they use softer compounds to make the tyre. This gives the benefit of making the tyre grip more on the road for less surface area. The problem is, it also makes the tyre wear quicker. The solution many folks use is two sets of tyres, a road tread and an MT. I personally use Goodyear Wranglers (MT) as an AT tyre. However, they are not cheap and I dunno if I would do it again...

There really is no easy way out of this one. The same compound issues can be found in road tyres too. Michelin used to have a reputation for tyres that wore and wore forever... The reason was they used a hard compound, they didn't necessarily grip as well as another make, but they lasted forever! I have a set of old track tread (AT-) Michelins I use on my trailer. They have done service on two landies prior to that and are still going strong. The tread pattern sucks though! lol You can only get stuck on a mates front lawn once and maintain any dignity... they had to go!

First impressions are good, bigger than 750's...

Seem quiet on the road, but I am in a diesel with a noisy rear axle!! So may not hear em too good anyway....

They do fill the wheel arches well, and do not catch when turning etc....

Bad points, they will wear out quicker than AT's as CG said, had a look at the AT's when I was in the tyre shop, am thinking now maybe I should have gone for AT's, as the tread was deep, great for lanes. Other bad point is that compared to the 600 x 16 I used to have, the Landy has lost a lot of grunt, but she cruises at 50 easy now...

OK Guys... settle down... :p

The important point made here is that if you are on 750's you have to get your speedo changed. The 109 speedo should do it, but the stadard 88 speedo is the wrong ratio. The speedo converts the speed of the gearbox to the road speed. Bigger wheels, you change the ratio...

Another point to note, bigger wheels more clearace. Bigger wheels, more height and more sway & squelch on road cornering. This game is all about compromise.. it's a minefeild.

Cheers,

Rob

sat nav creats an average speed not an actual speed. just one thing that puzzles me, why you got satnav in a series ;)

Ahem, I have a display that shows actual speed, which is a lot more accurate than any speedo......

Reason for the GPS/ sat nav, .........so I can see how fast I'm going

sad nav, fer folk that can't work maps

int there stories about how it sends you via dublin and luxemburg if you wanna go from mansfield to birmingham?

and the one me dad uses has gt a fookin dodgy accent! glad its work's so he can hand it back:D:D:D but the times he's used it it dnt get im lost in luxemburg;) (thort i'd join the ranting brigade;)) J
