hi all. Ive been doing a bit of resaerch on steering guards for my series 3 and it seems there are two points of view. Some say yes they are great because they protect your steering parts and others say they are actually a hinderence and dig into the groud and reduce approach angle. Have any of you series off roaders got steeing gaurds and what are your points of view? Thanks.

Some people will argue stronger rods are a better idea as it's a half-way house. I too have a steering guard for my series sitting about somewhere and wondering weather to fit it or not.

I'm with Spyderman,

A steering guard is great but I won't be fitting one to my 90 unless A, its dirt cheap or B, I had one lying about. If its that bad Why are you trying it? I have driven down a vertical drop for a 1 gate trialling and my steering arm dug into the ground at the bottom (and i got throu) It sustained no damage so I'm just beefing up the steering rods/ball joints when they bend so far not bent any with the exception of the track rod that is already seriously beefed up and it still bent. Jai

Thanks for the input guys. I noticed yesterday that some times the steering rods would be pushing through the ground. I'm going to look into the prices for uprated rods and make my decision on my financial situation I think.

Just remember, if you strengthen the steering rod you are moving the weakest point. More than once I have seen the steering arm off the swivel break where the rods have been upgraded.

In that case I might try my luck with a steering guard because I don't have the money to be throwing at loads of uprated parts at the moment. Thanks.

Steering guard for a series from Rebel4x4 is about £30... If you don't like just sell it on ebay and you will probably get most of your money back as long as it is not fooked :)

i think i am gonna get some 'danbars' as i like the use of physics rather than the solid rods which will bend as easy as standard rods
