Hiya People, Newbie here so please be gentle....:D

I have a series 3 1973 diesel, that is blowing oil from the breather on top of the rocker cover, now its blowing a lot of oil...##Normally i would be thinking that the rings are shot, but was wondering if there was anything I should look at first, such as a blocked pipe somewhere, engine flush etc....

Any help/thoughts would be appreciated...;)

Your normal thinking seems good But you could try washing the breathers in parrafin. If engine is high mileage blows blue smoke, and uses oil, it might need new valve stem oil seals. Otherwise is seems like you have got your Winter Project.

Trundling along at a fast 40 mph no smoke, when under power on a hill then grey smoke, wife said it was quite bad..

Will wash breather and ass pipe work, and see how that goes.....

Now resigning myself to an engine strip down.... Would oversive rings cure the problem if the bores are not scored?? Plus a overhaul of the head etc...

No You need to rebore engine for os rings . If the bores are within tollerance then new oilmaster rings should cure it.

Thanks Bonny.......

Watch this space, going for a flush and pipe clean this weekend......

After that..................Start counting me piggy bank money..
