Series 3 Gearbox will not work in 1st or reverse

It works in 2,3,4.

Does anyone have any idea what wrong with it?

Does this mean it simply just does not go forwards or backwards or that you can't get it into first or reverse ?

I had a similar problem where I could not get it into first or reverse but that was down to the clutch not disenguaging ( CANT SPELL ) completley. I could get it into all other gears 2,3,4.
