Hi, I have a 2.25 diesel series 3. After it being sat for a while I have replace the following:
-Glow plugs
-Injectors have been refurbished
-Injector pump has been refurbished
-Pipes going between pump and injectors are new
-New fuel
-New fuel filter
-New battery
-New fuel pump
-Head Gasket
-Tappets checked and rechecked

after all this I start the engine and after a lot of cranking the engine will start up run for about 4-5 seconds and then stalls. Am I right in saying that it’s air in the fuel system getting in from somewhere? Also can you put the lift fuel pump onto the cam wrong?

Thanks for you help.

Sounds like air to me, did it prime ok as per manual. To check pump, crank I’ve with pipe off and see what come out

Many of us use a few lengths of clear pvc pipe in the system so air bubbles can be spotted travelling through the fuel.
If you bleed the pump and continually get air out then it’s usually a pipe joint sucking air in.

I also had air leaks on the fuel return pipes on the injectors which caused stalling after a Short run case of redipoing the joints and or new return pipe
