Greetings all!

Long time lurker!

jumped out of second gear, got physically stuck in third.

one piece brass bushing completely disintegrated into 3 pieces. synchro unit had buckled/twisted [see photo], which was stopping movement. all 3 springs were still in place!

Please see below photos of wear on 1st, 2nd and 3rd mainshaft gears, dogs.

Are these re-usable? Thanks!

id replace 1st and 2nd gear you can use fc4077 and frc4076

I can get genuine suffix c 2nd gear but not genuine first.

is it okay to mix genuine 2nd /bearmach 1st?

and genuine 1st layshaft and bearmach mainshaft 1st?

[bearmach is out of stock of suffix c second gear until late july. ]

I

you can use either i have a few times odd times you get a gear that wont fit on bush or is too oversize , you dont have to replace the pair ie mainshaft and layshaft gears,unless layshaft gears are pitted or chipped id reuse them

thanks again, will suffix d 2nd gear pair work in an everything else suffix c box?

are bearmach gears better than britpart?

I'm in New York so returning ill fitting parts to the uk is problematic

ive used both britpart and bearmach both seemed ok,theres no guarantee any new part for such an old box will be perfect just generally they are good enough
2nd gear 245766 suffix a to c are the same suffix d is different
1st gear a an b are the same suffix c and d are the same 511205

thanks again. any tips on how to get the large steel bush locating pin out [second gear thrust washer]? this one wont budge!

btw, does 3rd gear look okay?

is it better to get a NOS genuine 3/4 synchro than a bearmach? just remembering the horror of 1970's leyland!

it has heat damage on thrust face but aslong as it fits well on bush and can be shimmed to get right endfloat its ok,genuine parts from the time of production are by far the best but ive had to use a lot of later pattern parts and generally its been successful

The issue of Britpart gears vs OEM came up a while back and a number of us commented from our experience of gear box rebuilds. To summarise:
The Britpart gears were OK, they fitted and lasted and were very good value. They seemed to be one of the things BP do well.
It was not clear that other makes (ie Bearmach) were not all from the same factory as BP as its not clear who is actually making them.
The OEM ones are quite likely to be the BB ones in an OEM box. I rang round some gear box specialists and was told that when customers insist on sourcing their own OEM parts they are almost always BP in an old box as its such a lucrative e-bay scam. The only person who seems to have actual OEM gears is the guy in Cyprus who sells on e-bay as he bought the MOD stock.
I fitted BP gears (3/4 syncho/1st/3rd) 3 years ago and 5000 miles later on a heavy LWB with a 3.3L Perkins no problems.
The other place to look is "shop4autoparts" who are in the midlands and get their overdrive gears made locally, I don't know about their gear box parts but when I spoke to them they clearly knew a lot about getting gears made.
One of the gear box speclialists (selling exchange Series boxes) said they did not buy parts but instead sent parts to a company in Italy to be laser scanned and copied to make new parts and kept a set of gears as templates. Struck me as an odd way to do it.
