Hiya
Can anyone help please?
I want to find out if I bought a s2a or a s3.The chassis number is on an aluminium plate rattling around loosely on the dashboard which is 23600xxx,the clutch master cylinder has been replaced,it has series3 chalked on it and the clocks are behind the steering wheel.. I have the V5 which states simply 'Land Rover' historic vehicle and 13 old exempt tax discs. If I was to take photos of particular mounts/parts/panels would anyone be so kind as to tell me what I have?
Cheers

Simplest would be to say what year it is on the v5. Plus...where are headlights mounted..if on wing its a series 3 if in rad grill its a 2a...unless of course someones swapped the wings etc..

2A also had headlights in the wings from April 1969 onwards (I think!)

If the clocks are behind the steering wheel, that's S3. But plenty of S2As are plodding about with S3 bits all over them - a lot can happen in 40+ years!

the chassis carries the ID of the vehicle, and it's dead easy to tell the difference between 2a and 3 chassis - although it gets a little hazy around 1969. the easiest giveaway is how the front flexible brake pipes mount on the chassis (although there are a pile of other detail changes). if you post up a photo of this bit we can probably ID it for you.

Incorrect

The series 2a late editions had wing mounted headlights.:p

Fuel tank hanger

chassis cut back

Tomorrow I'm going to the local fab shop for some galv plate like he said.
1.6mm for the chassis holes and 2mm for the hanger, sticked together.Bob's yer uncle.

I tend to use 3mm for any chassis repairs...1.6mm seems a bit thin for a chassis repair...or am I just doing it a bit overkill?
