Help needed. I'm doing some restorative work on my 1979 series 2a. I've got the front axle stripped down, all prepared and painted, with a full bearing and seal replacement and new swivels. Just starting reassembly. My question is, does an oil seal fit between the swivel and the axle, so it would be seated on the inside of the axle? Or is it just the paper gaskit?

I do not think the series had that internal seal, 90/110 onwards did.
Ps are you sure its a 2a? I ask as S3 came out in 1973.

My axles (which are 2A axles, according to the numbers stamped on them) required me to order some parts by the S3 part number, for example, the swivel pin fixings were beefed up some time around 69. Seal could be another difference.

I knid of thought it was an update, what made me say there is no seal fitted on mine is because when I remove the hubs I get covered in oily/greasy gloop!
Mine is the early axle with the sping loaded swivel bearings.

Don't know if this is needed by the OP but here's a bad picture.. (!) The axle seal I'm talking about is highlighted in red, it's in the end of the axle tubing. A wider paper gasket does also go between the wider flange and swivel..

The only bits i can find listed are 90217398 and 244151, both look like spacers, the first one longer than the other.
