I have a 1964 series 11A SWB petrol 2.25, I would welcome help and advice on a suitable replacement gearbox. ie can I fit a 5 speed box? if so from which model of landy. If not could anyone give me some advice please on the fact that I cannot select reverse gear at all after refitting the box to the engine.

I know it's a big ask, but as they say if you don't ask you don't get!

So please if you have any helpful advice that would be great. I'm just driving forward all the time and not going backwards for a change:).

Lucky me.

Rather than try fitting a 5 speed gearbox, what I would do is to fit either a series IIa or series III gearbox (you will have to swap the bell housings if you fit the SIII gearbox) and then fit an overdrive.

You can fit almost anything, but if you men can you drop it in just using spanners, no. The prop-shafts will need modifying (different lengths) the transmission tunnel, floor and possibly bulkhead, will need modifying, you will need to fabricate mountings, and possibly a cross member, and having done all that, and possibly a lot more, it is generally felt that it is inadvisable to use permanent 4wd with Series front axle.
If you really want a 5 speed box Ashcrofts used to sell a modified Series Transfer box to use with a Rover Saloon gear box, which would avoid many of the problems.

If the box was working O.K. before you removed it then it's likely that something has gone wrong with the installation. I'd pull the floor up again and check the gear selector mechanism bolted to the top of the gearbox has been fitted correctly. I vaguelly remember having some problems like this myself many years ago. I would not bother with trying to fit a 5 speed box for all the reasons already given. If you want higher gearing then either An Ashcroft high ratio transfer box or an overdrive would be a much easier way to go.

American footwear brand timberland boat shoes has launched a joint White Mountaineering together both the boot joint products. The two sides jointly by the recent hot boat shoes as a carrier, an increase of upper height, it has better protection. Also in the fabric, on the use of Fanmao high durable leather, with a low-key blue and navy blue, gray, low-profile choice for people. Like to drum up attention

Weird how things occur!!! There I was driving Mr Zebra round our field quite happy in gears 1 to 4 then blow me I spotted a reverse gear all on it's own wandering around the field in the sunshine.

Quickly grabbed it and admonished it for going awol.

Happy as Larry reverse gear worked fine in high low 2wd 4wd, then all of a sudden it went walkies again.

So reverse is in the gearbox somewhere just doesn't want to play with the other gears.

I have adjusted the push rod to 2&7/8th" as instructed by Mr haynes, bled the system, taken the springs and ball bearings out & cleaned them.

It will go into reverse, however when I lift the clutch up it just grinds like mad.

Given up now, going to put back the original non synchro box in and teach my girlfriend to double clutch I think, or try and source a series 3 gearbox.

Thanks for the help so far, if anyone else has any bright ideas or a very cheap gearbox in North Yorkshire please let me know.

this may or may not work - i don't know...but i had this with a car many moons ago, and it was solved by twisting the box a few degrees. Just loosen off the bellhousing bolts and twist - should have a degree or two play. Worth a try! Can't see why it would just go from being taken out!
