Hi all,
I’m having some trouble with my series 2 2.25 petrol engine.
I’ve started the engine for the first time since rebuilding the car and it’s throwing out very thick black smoke.
It’s on an Acuspark electronic ignition, timing all set up. Idling at around 400rpm. It doesn’t seem to matter how much I play with the mixture screw, it isn’t changing anything.
The oil bath has been cleaned out and now has fresh oil.
I’m at a lot of a loss with this one. Truly stumped.
It’s not even just a little bit of smoke. It’s very thick and sooty. Running extremely rich.

The attached photos is from about 3 minutes of the engine running. Leaving a nice black stain on the ground

Any help would be massively appreciated

the carb float could be leaking, or the stop valve not seating properly, both will mean un-regulated fuel reaches the cylinders.
have you checked the choke is fully off?
which carb is it and has it ever worked OK?

Hi thanks for the reply!
So….. I found a spare Weber carb under the work bench that had seen better days. I gave it a good clean out and checked all the jets. Fitted it and it runs sweet with no smoke at all!
Seems like it was just the crappy Chinese copy carb all along.
Thanks
