Hi all, I am about to remove the gearbox from my s1 to replace the bearings, I was thinking that if i fitted a diaphragm clutch cover, this will lighten up the pedal. has anyone out there allready done this?

thanks

It's a good idea but I doubt it is possible. The thing is a toggle spring clutch cover is much thicker than a diaphragm cover, so, if you fit a diaphragm cover to your series one, the clutch release bearing won't be any where near close enough for the clutch to work. A conversion kit would allow it to work but does such a thing even exist? Anybody??

Is it definetely a series 1 gearbox?
Many years ago I replaced a series 1 gearbox on a 1952 series 1 with a series 2 gear box clutch worked ok.
Cannot remember having to do loads of adaptions , think the pedal just joined where series 2 linkage went.
Looking at series 1 parts manual clutch withdrawl looks a lot similiar to series 2 check part numbers for comparison.
Web search for smithies landrover will give NZ web site taht you can download parts manuals for both.

early engines used a 2 dowel 9 inch clutch later diaphragm clutches are 3 dowel and 9.5 inch clutch
