I have an ex military 90 with the series style seat frames and square squabs.

I would like to change them for something a bit more comfortable!
What would be the best choice. Series deluxe seats or change the seat rails and fit newer defender seats?

Anyone done this and what are their experiences?

When I bought my ex-MOD 90 20-years ago I first fitted a pair of (brand new / boxed) Recaro seats from John Craddock which were very comfortable (8hrs driving, sleep in the seat and then drive home again with no discomfort!). The only downside was lack of underseat access (soon sorted out by a bespoke mounting) and being slightly taller meant that my wife could not depress the pedals fully.
Fast forward 12-years and I bought myself a set of new standard seats from Exmoor Trim. Not as comfortable on a super-long journey but they fit properly (as to be expected) and allow my wife to drive unhindered.
To keep them looking good I use tailored canvas seat covers from LI Upholstery (thoroughly recommended).

Standard Defender front seats are actually pretty good if they're not broken (like most are.) All the alternatives seem to either not fit, prevent access to the underseat box(es) or make it awkward to get in and out.

You can get a full back upgrade to the military seats from exmoor trim, not tried or seen them yet

Mine is not a military Defender, but thought I'd share my setup. The idea here was mainly to create side impact protection for the head with the halo on the seat. Mine is fixed, but can be mounted on moving rails.

I took out the military seats in my 90 and just bolted standard defender ones in their place. No modifications needed.
