I have a 2000 dse, an sfter some awesome ebaying I now have a rather nice kenwood touchscreen system, with a screen and seperate drive unit.

My install idea is to place the screen as recessed as possible In to the dashboard between the storage area and the central vents. Ideally the screen would be recessed in dash as per.most vehicles. Alteratively thee screen could be motorised or hindged.

Can anyone tell me how much space is available in the area, I understand that the vent supply will be in there from some picture research, but I can't establish how much if any svailable space may be available.

Any information or pics would be greatly appreciated.
 
That's awesome mate thanks. Although I would like to put the screen in the dash itself and keep that little area for some gauges.

Not mine but seen quite few move the HEVAC unit and makes quite a nice install
 
Well,car has been stripped and the cubby has been adjusted with a dremel, just need to fi d somrthing to hold screen in with an then neaten tbe job up with some filla and some trim paint.
 
Having trimmed an sodded around, my choice of screen is now biting me on the arse. Its bigger than those used in the pics and attachnents. So, unfortunately my hopes of a fluch install are gone. Going to have to have the screen protuding from the dash... Bummer..

Not quite, but close.lol. Issue comes with the cable attachment on the rear of the screen. It requires the usage of a stupid bracket.. Damn kenwood an there user.friendly parts ; )

Ill lob some pics up in a bit.

Next issue.is to glue screen in which will no doubt be easier.said.than done.

Then wire it for sound..

A fair amount thanks, but, it would appear when a range rover is involved prior knowledge means nuts all.

Have done many installs, but none have been this much of a pain in the arse. Its like landrover made everything in the most complex manner achievable.

Yeah but there are a more subtle lines of thought. 1. It's a lot harder making and hole smaller that it is to make it larger. 2. If it does not pull off, before you knock off with an hammer, try unscrewing it. 3. Measure twice cut once. 4. He who fails to plan ahead oft makes unplanned errors. 5. Bull at a gate who cannot open latch gets sore head. Things like that. :D:D:D

Lol, all true indeed.

Slight variance with mine though, can't make hole big enough, lol..

Still, as I've learnt with the rover, start with a plan an constantly evolve it with the fight that the vehicle puts up. Had to be said.though, I wouldt give the beast up for anything.

Oh totally, I failed to investigate more thoroughly the miuntings of the switches on the dash. Assumed a few things, an yiu know whag they say about assumptions.

Certainly in the future, I shall strip vehicle first and not just template the part.. Basic mistake that a usual over confidence of ability causes. But, hey, I'm human. An being an engineer, I secretly enjoy the added challenge...
