So, first post and sorry it's one looking for some advice... I've just changed the head gasket on my 300tdi Defender, serviced and taken it for a run out. All good (to be honest, I was just happy it started again...), but is making a nasty screech under load. Not related to road speed, or engine speed (i.e. can't replicate on the drive, and sits happily at 50 in 5th without making the noise), but will do it when pulling away. Hopefully you can hear on the attached video - any ideas/input would be most welcome.

Thank you

Something up with the turbo?

Also pop into the ‘Introduce Yourself’ Section and say hello.

Check all your intercooler hoses/clips etc, if okay bet you have an issue with manifold/turbo gasket?

If you have allowed coolant with anti-freeze to splash on your fan-belt it will make knackered bearing noises / screeching.
Try cleaning the multi-V part of the belt.
Sounds a load of b0llox, but anti-freeze has this affect.

Now had a listen to your video, sounds like a leaking turbo hose, but the fan belt is an easy one to check.

All, thank you for your replies - really appreciate it. I checked over all the hoses, but it turns out I'm just a lot sloppier than I thought... Lynall nailed it - was the manifold, I'd left the bottom rear nut only finger tight - must have been forcing exhaust out and making the noise at a certain pressure. Quick torque up sorted it!

Thank you again
