Hi Guys. My '94 Disco, 2.5 TDi has started making a worrying noise while gears engaged, when accelerating, in all gears (not in reverse). When clutch depressed and freewheeling it stops. It doesn't make a noise when revving hard but not in gear, or when 'cruising' with engine under minimum load. It's a screeching sort of noise which you can hear is something rotating (?). Belts are fine, alternator is fine, pulleys seem ok, no play in waterpump pulley. It's not the whine you get off gears or diff.
This seems to be pointing towards a clutch release bearing. Big job I could do without.
Anyone got any other ideas?

sounds very much like the clutch to me too. not that much of a nightmare if you can diy it, most of the cost is labour.

I had the engine out of my 90 other day to change the clutch, i had to do this as i live on a hill so needed the handbrake to stop the car running away, took me all day not impressed, so i would say gearbox every time, if youve got the room to get underneath that is.
