Hi all LandRover owners,
I'm over 60, and been using and owning LandRovers since .... well ... let's say when they still had 1.6 litre engines! That was in army days. Military Police at that ... and because in the mid 1960s the army didn't have any vehicle except cars that could keep up with a three-ton Bedford truck, we got permission to "do some work" on what was a "quarter-tonner" ready for 'casting' which meant disposal. It was fitted with the engine and gearbox from a write-off Triumph TR2, all drive to the front was removed, and it was plenty fast enough to catch anything the army fitted with tyres. We never quite got around to a handbrake, but then, we were the MPs, so who was going to annoy us about a little thing like that?
Anyway, my latest LandRover is a two and a half year old TD5 seven seater (was - I heaved out the two back seats to release space) and I have to say, even by Landrover standards it's easily the worst Landrover I have ever used. After the 19J engines, Disco engines and economy just got worse and worse in my experience.
The current snag at 31K miles is that the TD5 engine won't run. A mere detail.
I currently have the rocker-cover off, rocker shaft out, and investigating the crazy injectors. As soon as it runs properly, it's for sale, cheap ...... it has to go. I am too old and too busy to waste my life fault-chasing a piece of junk.
So, anyone with really experienced ideas about TD5 acting like a TD4, smoking like a bonfire on start up, needing the full fuel purge job before it will even think about starting, is most welcome to contact me direct with suggestions.

Happy Days, and all the best for 2007!
