My Landy

New Member
My Landy recently failed its MOT due to emissions much to my disappointment. My local garage charged me a fortune for diagnosis and as a result had to have my MAF sensor replaced and they told me it was full of sand. Is this actually possible???
I thought that was what an air filter would do before it reached the engine???

i think yourll find they are having your pants down

for a start, how are you supposed to get sand IN a resistor :p,

How much have they charged you to tell you that your maf is poorly because its pretty easy to diagnose a poorly maf.

Uhm - Basically it failed its MOT as I said on emissions. They kept my landy (my local garage) for approx 4 days sending me back and forth saying they was diagnosing the fault. Strangely enough as I picked it up every evening cos needed it, one evening before I picked it up they said we will order and try a new air flow sensor and when I gets in it was showing the engine management light (emissions) lit up, never there before. Then next morning I didn't say anything and let em carry on and low and behold it passes MOT and tells me that the sensor was full of sand!!

Sounds like they are having you on. Unless theres a split in the hose past the air filter, damaged air filter then i dont see how sand can get in there.

Secondly the MAF in my Td5 has been shot for 2 years still passed the MOT with half the max emmissions.

MAF on a diesel doesn't do the same job as the petrol one.

Cant see a motor listed assumed....

Must be a petrol duff MAF on a diesel can't do much to emissions. More to do with EGR. Diesels are throttled by fuel not air like the petrols, were the air going through the MAF controls fueling. On a diesel for any given manifold pressure or throttle demand there is always the same amount of air and the same amount of fuel is used.
