Hi folks,
hope I've named the part of the car correctly ... the useful step board on the side of my 2002 Disco that means I can actually get in it (being only 5'2!!) seems to have rusted away quite badly inside the plastic outer. Stepped up on it yesterday and it sort of 'dropped' a few inches and a load of rusted metal fragments dropped onto the floor :(

I've had a bit of a grope about under there (steady!!) and think there are a couple of brackets, each near a wheel, but that's about all. Is this likely to be a simple 'unbolt' and 'bolt on a new one' ... or is there anything I should know up front?!

Also, has anyone replaced a running board thingy before - good place to get one without having to sell a kidney?

Thanks all :)

Hi there,

Your in luck they are just bolt on!! They do just rust and this happens. But as long as the old bolts arent rusted to the chassis just buy a new set. Have the new ones treated with some waxoyl or similar and bolt them back on :)

Put your location someone nearby might have a set...?

Now about this grope ;)

Oooo Littlewill - thank you so much!!!
Didn't even think about adding my location - Wilts/Somerset border, so a bit far for that grope I'm afraid - but thanks everso for the advice :bounce:

Be very careful... I had the exact same issue with my running boards. Felt a little crumbly under foot when standing on them then one day while driving down road at 40mph the nearside one dropped off the front end and nearly flipped the disco. The brackets were rusted through luckily I wasn't doing 70mph+ on motorway could have been the end of me and the disco. I crawled home and removed them both and binned them as they were in a bad way. Each board has 4 bolts 2 and front and 2 at back easy as that but seriously. Check them properly and if not sure TAKE THEM OFF NOW before they drop off

Jeeeeeeeesus, scary! Thanks for that - I will take your advice on that Zaky31

Jeeeeeeeesus, scary :D the D1 items must have been made better. Mine which are genuine parts are 17 years old, just slight rust on the welds but now protected with the waxy stuff. :)
