Afternoon,

Wondering whether anyone can give me some pointers about my landy.

It starts runs for a bit then stops, if I give it some gas it carries on for a bit longer. tried putting the slow running screw in more but it's full in already. And even when i step on the accelerator it stops after a while.

Thought it was a fuel problem as found out the tank was leaking and there were gashes in the fuel line. Have replaced those and added an in line filter and can see fuel going into the carb fine.

Also can anybody give me some help with setting the right mixture on a zenith carb?

Thanks.

No choke at all. Even when I've had it running for a bit and it's warm it still stops after a while with no accelerator.

No misfiring, just appears to slow right down to nothing. With the throttle it runs "smoothly", well as smoothly as it always has!

sounds actully like your not getting enough fuel haveu checked the fuel lines and the filter in the carb

had to replace the fuel lines/tank/pump. all new and fitter an in line filter before the carb (mainly to see the fuel going in). Also checked the carb out fairly recently. Would the float levels affect the running like this?

if youve screwed the idle mix all the way in. thats the wrong way (clockwise) to richen the mix...youve leaned it out too much, screw it about 2 turns out (anticlock), see if this works, that will richen the mix.

When I put a 'new' petrol tank on my old series we had similar problems ... turned out to be the old fuel pickup inside the tank, the pyramid shaped gauze filter was so clogged hardly any fuel got through .. cleaned it up and never missed a beat again!

We reckon the tank had been stood with the neck open and dust, spiders, ****e had just accumulated, when we fitted we didn't think to swill it out, just fitted it all and within a fortnight were having problems, did all the same as you have, fiddled with carbs, replaced hoses, filters etc and all it really needed was a proper clean!
