Hi,

I accidentally over-filled my 200tdi with engine oil. I used it, from cold, for circa 20mins after over-filling it before realising I should stop. Wasn't thinking straight.

I've now drained the oil out to the required level.

In the short time I drove, will any damage potentially have been caused?

I doubt it
If it ran ok and its ok now I wouldn't worry.
I am sure some one will be along in a moment who knows this engine better than me, but what the worst that can happen?

depends how much is too much
the worst - you cant stop it, oil will get into the combustion chambers and the engine will run on until its burned the excess. I bet an older diesel can run on its own oil
In theory a pressure build up can blow a seal, most likely the rear crank seal as thats a pain to get at.
Anyone know better ? Or seen it for real ?

I've a little bit too much in mine, doesnt cause a problem.
Once upon a time a mate changed the oil in his car, poured in the whole gallon bottle, but forgot to drain the old out. That really was too much. It ran on, and put out so much smoke. Amazed it ran at all, it was a petrol engine.
