hi there..
went out offroading the otherday, only light green lanes and stuff. but since then, it is pulling to the left a fair bit and if i turn right, so it leans to the left, i can here a faint sort of noise as though something is rubbing on my tire.. i have checked all round the tires, nothing is anywhere near them to rub, i have checked my brakes after a long run down the motorway, none are hot so cant be binding..

it didnt take any big hits while on green lanes.. so im sure it cant be something bent.. anyone got any other ideas? only thing that i can think is that some sort of bush was on its last legs and now it has got worse after being offroad.??

ta!

Have you checked that there is nothing stuck in the caliper that might be scraping against the edge of the disc?

do you have discs guards still fitted? could be something stuck between the guard and the brake disc

i got rid of the guards on mine as stones kept getting stuck in there

noise could easy be mud etc stuck in brakes ,check wheel bearings before removing wheel to look, pulling to one side would make me check track rod and drag link and radius arm bushes etc

yehh still have them fitted, cheers mate il have alook at that too. it sound more like something on the tire tho, like a dull deep sort of sound, like the tread..

nice one james,. will check them too. to be honest, the ball joint on the drop arm and the other end of that arm ball joints look pretty well killed.. i dont kno how it got through the MOT! haha maybe i will have to change them.. not looking forward to the drop arm one..

Well, wheel bearings are fine, brakes are fine and the dust covers have nothing jammed in them...

if only!!

yehh i dont have along straight edge to check the arms with tho.. il keep my eyes out..

you can sort of feel the rubbing through the car, really is like they tire is rubbing. maybe its just the noise of the tire on the road.

still no joy!

well, developments..

i think it may be the left cv.. really bad sort of fast thudding/rumbling when i turn right, and the odd metal on metal noise!

best way to check, jack, full lock and spin the wheel?

Does it make a clicking sound or other knock, bang, thud on full lock ??? if so Id say CV for sure . Dead easy to do too and for the price of them it doesnt wipe you out :) .
Failing that your sure your diff lock isnt still engaged ......

Difflock definately isnt engaged.. Had the wheel jacked, on full lock, spins nice and free, no clunking at all!

Best way to describe the noise is its like driving on the rumble strip on the hard shoulder of the motorway.. Or like driving in too high a gear.. Very strange.. And there is no more metal in metal noises.. I may have imagined them!

there is no real clicking.. or banging.. really weird.. has 2 of my mechanic mates stumped!

cant see any steering arms bent.. last option is to check for play in the steering ball joints..

Bearing in mind that a worn CV will sound fine spinning the wheel by hand unles its totally F*cked ..... it needs power put through it ( ie' driving ) .

Go down an ind est with a mate ( so he can be outside listening , or driving ) and drive round in circles and listen for clicks-knocks etc :) .

not a bad plan! i had a slightly annoying thought on the way back from work just now.. low tire pressure could cause all the mentioned symptoms.. when turning right the side wall might flex onto the knobbles on the corner, which would be louder.. but, looking at it it seems fine, cant get a gauge on it now its too dark! il be happy, but annoyed if that is what it is!

its not tyres... they are all the same..

im thinking.. sticky prop.. engine mount.. or cv.. it is related to when i have the power on or not.. when it was doing it i dipped the clutch and it stopped..

hmmmm....
