Well, the latest bit of british leyland magic on my RR to go on strike is the sunroof. I have a 1989 3.5 Efi with electric metal sunroof. It tips up at the back, in the sort of vent position, but it wont go back into the roof to fully open. I looked on top while pressing the button and the back of the sunroof is trying to drop down to go into the roof, but it seems to be sticking and trying to take the roof with it at the back.

Last time I used it it would go eventually if I rocked the switch a few times. Almost looks as if I lubed the seal along the back of the sunroof it would drop in and be on it's way. Is there any scope for adjusting it? Just needs to be forward a fraction to drop in. So frustrating!

Any ideas/advice much appreciated!

Hi,
On my Classic same year etc. When I first got it the sun roof was stuck solid so I sprayed the seal with diluted washing up liquid and left it for a while then repeated the process, the motor still would not drop down the half inch or so required to retract the panel, I got the impression the motor was not powerful enough so I used a large screwdiver to help wind it back down the then motor took over and slid the panel back.
On inspection lichen and dirt had built up around the seal preventing it from breaking the seal, cleaned this away then luricated the sliders etc and now don't get a problem. Apart from the wind deflector will not dop down enough on it's own to close the panel.Unable to find any adjustment.
Quite a good description in the manual regarding removal and adjustment of the roof.

Good luck
Fred

Cheers Fred. That's exactly what mine's doing. Seal's gone pretty stiff and dirty. Reckon a good clean and lube'll do the trick. What's on the inside of your roof panel? Bloke who had the car before me had a new headlining fitted and the bit on the inside of the sunroof panel sags a bit, looks a bit of a bodge to be honest. Thing is I can't see how to get to the front two screws holding the panel in place. Any ideas?
