Just started to notice that i am gettin very little brakes at low speed and/or the brake pedal has been pressed repeatedly. Also the pedal feels hard put theres no effort to the brakes.

Any ideas?

A bit more info might help. Do you have ABS? Have you done a search? Have you checked your wheel bearings?

Ok has no abs ive had the the brake system bleeded and fluid changed but hasnt helped. I havent checked the wheel bearings no. If i check them what am i looking for? Thanks

Sounds like master cylinder on its way out if its like the defender there is a air assisted pump that fails I'm not familiar with the rrc

Loss of vacuum, check pipe and it's connections from manifold to servo also NRV inline. Or hole in or leaking servo diaphragm.

Wammers bloody hell servo Doh couldn't think of the name has is got a vac pump that runs of the cam ??

To be honest don't know i have little info on Classics. All i can find out from what i have is the none ABS one has a vacuum servo. I can find no reference to an engine driven vac pump. Only reference is to vac pump for cruise control and that cannot run brakes. So i summise vac is from a standard inlet manifold connection.

He hasn't said what engine I had a 300tdi thought the classics had them too mine had a vacume pump that ran of the side of the engine but it could be a v8 for all I know.

My '88 Classic had a Vacuum pipe to a port on the Plenum Chamber....

Yep it could, doozel does indeed have a vac pump on side of engine and they are known to fail. But usually make a bloody racket when they do. So i suppose if it's a doozel it could be a weak vac pump. I just assumed it was a gas guzzler for some reason. :):)

I do have a PDF copy of the Brake section of the 1990 - 1994 Classic (Covers the V8, the TDi and the VM) but it is too large to post here as an attachment...I am looking at uploading it to my rapidshare account, when I have done that I will post the link on here.!!

And just incase you have issues with the PDF....here is the excerpt indentifying the Vacuum source....

So remove pipe to servo check for suction or slit pipe if all good servo leaking I think a garage can test a servo diaphragm.
