Hi Everyone. Hope someone can help here? I recently bought my dream car - 4.6 HSE (1996). :) Very happy until last month when I thought the exhaust manifold gasket had gone (chuffing sound from LHS engine). Took it to garage who fitted new gaskets, but discovered it was head gasket :(. However, there is no oil or coolant loss or smoke from engine and no overheating. Any ideas? Sound is definatly related to cylinder firing and my poor Rangy sounds like a steam tractor! Any advice would appreciated! Cheers guys!

hi karl, if your head gasket has gone at the out side, you will not get oil water mix. i would get a sniff test done asap..

I hadf same problem , was 125 miles from home doing .. well lets say well over 70mph for a long duration on the motorway , pulled in to get petrol and rr sounded like i had put a hole in the exhaust etc very poppety and loud , drove fine all the way home , no over heating , and as you put into garage for manifold gasket and turned out to be head gasket ... had gasket done and all is good £600 good anyway
