Well I've fitted the TD5 instrument binnacle, speedo, temp gauge, clock and fuel gauge and everything is now working except the temperature gauge.
The temp sender arrived this morning (AMR1425) so the gauge not reading prior to that was put down to using the wrong gauge. I fitted the sender and started the car but nothing, no reading. I checked the wiring which goes from sender to pin 5 of the bottom speedo plug and then pin 9 connects to the instrument connector. This arrangement is supposed to change the senders output to match a TD5's output in order that the TD5 gauge reads correctly for a 300TDi.....
Anyway the gauge still reads zero, the need moved from the stop to the bottom of the range when you turn the ignition on but then doesn't move. I connected the input to ground and the need jumped to full hot.... I connected pin 5 of the bottom speedo to ground and again it shot to full hot after stopping in the correct range for 1/2 second on route.... I changed the TD5 speedo for another but it also did the same.
So wiring is tested and absolutely spot on as per the excepted norm....
The sender is new....
The gauge goes to full hot when grounded...
Any ideas?
The gauge is tatty so I was going to buy another off ebay anyway as the other instruments are fine so this might be the answer but I can't think of anything else. For the moment I've switched back to the 300TDi sender and installed the old temperature gauge in the space where the oil pressure gauge will eventually go in my pod. At least I will have an idea of how how it is till I figure it out.
