hi

i am looking a 3.5 v8 for my sereis 3. i have seen one on ebay not far away from me. It says it is out of a rover p5. i have no idea about the rover p5 will the engine be much different ie in size our engine mounts compaired to my current sd1 v8.

I am only concerned a bit because it is a good bit older incase there any differences and i do have sum parts i would like to swap over. I hope this makes sence.

He looking for £200 would you say thats fair? he says its dry store and was running ok when he got it. I paid 100 for the sd1 v8 and it lasted me a number of years.

any info would be gladly received

All v8 are the same from the rover stable but to be honest a old worn v8 will cost more than a more recent unit with less milage

hi

cheers man thought they where the same but just wanting to check. aye am not realy wanting to spend lots on it realy either do i want a bit of junks that i need to sort shortly after putting it in . i only do about 2000 miles a year in my old landy i dont want to go daft either.

but i have got a wee 4 barrel edelbrock

I doubt a P5B engine is suitable for your purpose. With a compression ratio of 10.5 it was designed to run on the 'five star' leaded petrol that was available during the 'sixties & the model went out of production in 1973. Running it on today's lower octane unleaded fuel will cause eventual serious damage, though presumably P5B owners have devised ways (?) to keep these grand old cars running. The SDI V8 is a good choice as the compression ratio is lower & the heads are suitable for unleaded fuel.

The engine in mine is out of a 1965 rover p6 so would have thought it would be similar to the p5.The only differences I can think of are the waterpump and crankpulley,but if it's complete that's not a problem,and the threads are imperial not metric.
your carb and manifold should fit too.
