Hiya

I'm looking to swap my 90's rather sluggish 2.5N/A engine to a disco 200tdi and am currently counting out the pennies

Does anyone have a rough idea what the cost of a decent engine might be?

Gosh...there's a question that has never come up before

Try a trawl through the numerous conversion threads...and a wee trip through ebay. :search:

As beneagles says, but a rough guide, I bought my 200tdi disco for 300nicker and sold a few bits on it so it cost me about 250quid
You might find one for a bit less and you can buy a re conned one for over a grand.

If you want a fender one then you will be looking to pay a lot, recently a fender exhaust manifold went on ebay for 156 quid!!!! with a fekked turbo.
Disco 200tdi all day long for cheapness, do the work yourself and buy the conversion off ebay and ya laughing.
Do a search in the 90110 section and there is LOADS of other info on it:D:D

Thanks Vagrant

A disco will do perfectly fine for me and at that sort of cost it means it will (hopefully) get done this year and means it have money left over for all the other plans I have for my truck...which seem to never end!

I would say just be aware that there will be loads of bits and bobs to price up so maybe as a rough guide double the cost of the engine to get it installed depending on what is coming out, I think it ended up costing me about 800 to get a tdi into my seires but i got loads of spares i have to sell on so think it will end bup about 600 ish.

But you will need obviously oil filters and a clutch which is the best part of 100 quid, best to do the rear crank main wiht an oem seal there about 10 quid, fule filter, youll need to fit an intercooler pipe kits are about 60 quid but there easy enough to fabricate, a down pipe is about 100 quid. if you need an oil coller i got mine for about 30 quid. but obviously there are always little bits if your going from a 2.5 td or something it s not too bad as your oil cooler lines will fit but i think you will need to get some new power steeting lines made up.

You could probably do it cheaper than i did but its best to do it properly.

I was in a rush so paid more for the motor than I would have done if I waited. The lump with 300TDI turbo cost £550, Parts: £400 (new radiator, full service, clutch, pipes etc) Labour £600 Total was around £1600 all inc for a SWB series 3 conversion.

just get a compleat disco then you will have 99% of the parts you nead ie rad intercooler oil cooler pipes etcetc
