Hi
My mate has just gone and got himself a nice old 200tdi which he claimed was in good knick.
On closer inspection it would appear that the cills are completely gone. I am a Series boy and have very little knowledge of discos and what can and can't be done t o them.
Is there any chance that you can remove the cills and replace them with a piece of box steel instead? I have seen it done on series and defenders but am not sure if you can do the same on a disco.
Also does anyone know anyone in Derby or close by who could replace the cills with new ones if swapping them for box steel is not doable?
Cheers for your help
Joe

Hi swapping them for box section is fairly easy if you can weld. I was gonna do this with mine apparently you need 100x40mm box section. They make great rock sliders as well. Tell him to lift the carpets as well because if the sills have gone chances are the floor will be rotten as well along with the rear body crossmember.

Floor's already been replace fortunately. WHy they didn't do the cills i don't know!!
Do you just strip the old sills off and weld the box section to the chasis and then weld the floor onto that? I take it there are no structural mounts off the cills. Like i say i know very little about discos!!
Cheers for your prompt response by the way! ;)

there are 2 body to chassis mounts on the cills. but they are easy to fabricate. then it's just a case of cutting the sills away and welding the new box section away. I was also going to drill a series of holes in the floor above the new box section and "puddle weld the box section to the floor. As well as welding it from underneath, just to give it some additional strength.
