Had a recon gearbox fitted a month or so ago as the original was leaking like a f##ked fridge and it had already had seals replaced, also it became hard to change gear when it got hot.
I had clutch and flywheel done at the same time, after a few days there was a small almost rotational noise heard from near transmission funnel, almost like when you put some paper on fan blades when its going round (if you can imagine that noise). It went away and didn't come back so I didn't think anything of it.

Last night it came back when on low revs in 1st and 2nd and occasionally under load in the same gears. It happened when cold and warm.
However its not happened today, there is also a quiet whine from the box - is this likely to be related or does the rotating noise sound like the clutch? Any ideas - I cant challenge it with the garage if theres no noise for them to listen to.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Cheers

does pressing the pedal effect the noise ,is it in all gears including 4th,a common issue when changing the box is to put too long a bolt in top one of the the 2 front bolts on lhs securing t/box to g/box, it catches the gear

Pressing the clutch makes the noise stop.
Its loudest in 1st and 2nd, but still audible in 3rd, not sure if this is due to the engine/road noise though drowning out when its in 3rd.

Its not all the time either, sometimes it wont make a noise and others its quiet audible driving regularly.

LR trained mechanic sat in it with me yesterday and we went for a spin, he reckons its either transfer or gearbox but doesn't know which, he recommended seeing how I get on with it for the time being and see if it develops. Not entirely sure if I'm happy with this to be honest in case I chuck a cog out the side of the box on the motorway.

Cheers

Ill have a check cheers, also noticed theres some play in the front UJ, maybe that little bit of play could cause enough vibration to cause some noise. Il update anyway in case anyone else comes across it. thanks James

since there is play in the uj its best its done first

There was tiny amount of play in the UJ, replaced though a couple of days ago and touch wood theres no funny noises now.

I had that noise with uj. Then felt like clutch slipping. A week later and whirring noise turned to bang and bust yoke. Lesson learned.

That's amazing service. How come he had one in his van? Nearly as breath taking as amazon doing one hour deliveries
