Hi all,

I've spent many hours searching and have been to my local LR dealer but am still none the wiser, so I wondered if the collective at LandyZone can help?

I bought and collected a roof rails/bars kit from a seller on evil-bay for my 3-dr 2001 Freelander but unfortunately could not take it to pick them up (so couldn't check fit). Everything looked OK but I've never fitted them before.

Anyway, long story short, they don't fit. I'm wondering whether there should be a mounting plate between the roof and the flange on the rail unit? I asked the seller and he says I've got exactly what he bought, but I can't help thinking that he's left something on his truck when he sold it (he's not being very helpful). The only other thing I can think of is that his was a '53 plate and so may have been different.

Can anyone enlighten me? A photo of the missing bit would be great - A couple of whatever is needed that someone wants to sell would be even better!

Attached is a photo of the problematic area.

Thanks,
FF

Have you tightened the back up fully before you tried to put the toprails on? Mine ned to be loose to fit them then tightened up.
There looks to be arubber gasket between the roof and rail missing.
Do they look distorted or bowed?

I left the rear bolts really loose and, with a little force, can line the circular holes up with the bolts. I also have the rubber gasket thingies. However, the bolts (which were on my truck) are not long enough to reach. Besides, the fit just looks 'wrong', as you would be screwing down against the plastic gutter trim.

Has anyone got a close up pic similar to mine but with everything actually fitted and with the covers removed? It might go a long way to solving things as I'm now wondering if it's just me being stoopid...

Thanks.

I would put one of mine up but boto phuckit isn't working.
New, longer bolts should only be a couple of quid on that front.

If you take it off and stand it on the floor, is it even?

Have you got the rubbers for the rear?

OK, so I actually put it all together this evening (previously I was just offering up a rail). It's close but no cigar.

With the roof gaskets it seems to fit in the correct place, with the protrusion coming (f'narrr  ) up through the flange hole (giggity :D ). See top of 2nd pic.

The 2nd pic shows the 'problem', if indeed there is one. The bolt holes are not lined up with the circular holes in the rail (and in fact do not seem to be the same distance apart). The holes do line up with the 'oval' (what is that shape?) holes but would require some sort of washer - and I can't help feeling that there's a proper way to do it.

Happy to bodge it if there isn't :p

There are no rubbers for the rear included. However, the blanking plates that I removed didn't have any either.

Thanks for the help.

I'll get some pics of mine tom. Cos i'm off.

Any chance someone else could post a couple of pics similar to mine in post #7 but with it all attached? I'm really hoping to get this sorted at the weekend.

Cheers.
