Crazier than a box of frogs on acid
Some pics of my 300tdi discovery 1 ES. :)

Here she is as of when I bought her back in August.



Since then it's undergone plenty of changes, modifications, general rust treatment, welderising and given a wash here and there.

So far I've.....

Rebuilt both axles, fitted a new clutch, fitted new brakes all around including ditching all copper hose in favour of braided hose throughout, completely cleaned back, rustreated and painted the entire chassis, patched most of the rusty body work (still need to sort rear crossmember), changed all the bushes over to poly, 2" terrafirma lift kit, 6 spot light bar, southdown snorkel, straight through side exit exhaust, upside down dislocation cones, Flatdog Extended arches, 33" BF Goodrich mud tyres, custom loads pace, carling switch mount in headlining, retrimmed headlining, silicone hoses, 2" body lift, homemade winch bumper, obligatory landyzone stickers....... Errr...... I think that's it. :p

Lots more planned anywho.

And here she is as of now.




Will add anymore pictures I think I worthy later on. :)

About time I put some more photos up for in ere. :)

Just a few pics of things I've done to her and out and about getting filthy dirty. :D


First up is some pics I took when I rebuilt both axles. The chassis also got some love in the form of rust treatment and lots of paint. :)














Also had completely custom brake line set made for it to get shot of the abs and any nasty horrible copper pipe. :D









Whilst sorting the axles noticed my inner wings
were looking a little worse for wear so ripped off the outer wings and got on and patched them up.









Done the same the other side.






Also treated any rust inside on the floors etc. Gave it all a coat along with the sills after doing a couple of small patches.





Speaking of the interior I also retrimmed my headlining in black faux suede.






Now it was modification time. :)
New spot light bar and southdown snorkel.




Then stuck in some nice carling switches in where the sunroof buttons were.





Then I bought some 33's to go on her. In the form of BF Goodrich M/T's.




And they rubbed like buggery so on with the extended arches from Flatdog, and a 2" body lift.





And some dislocation the as my springs kept coming out off road.




Then last but not least fitted my homemade winch bumper to accommodate the body lift.
Also didn't want one that stuck out miles so made it rather slimline.



I will get a better photo of it tomorrow as it's not actually finished in the above photo. :eek:


So that's it for things I've done to it so far. Now for some out and about getting filthy dirty photos. :D

Hmm never seen that site, just had a look, which chassis paint did you use? And how much of it? Thanks sir :)

Good paint and a good price. This is the chassis paint I used. Manor Chassis Paint - Black Gloss | www.paints4trade.com

How much have I used? Well..... I bought 5 litres. So far I've painted the chassis, both axles, all bits holding the axles on, the entire underside of the body, the entire inside floor of the body, plus a few other (5 in total) axles I've rebuilt here and there, and I've still got about a litre of the stuff left. Everything usually gets 2 coats anorl. :eek::)

Bloody good value imo.

No need to worry it's very easy.

Simply undo all the body mounts, theirs 10 in total, and the 4 body anchors, 2 being either side of the gearbox/transfer box, and 2 (for the rear seatbelts) under the boot floor.

Remove the 5 bolts on the side you want to start, the jack it up until enough room is there to put your spacers in then put your new longer bolts in, and stick the nuts on loose, then repeat the other side.

Once both sides are up and done do up all the bolts.

Then you can fit the extended body anchors. Fit your rad pins to lift the radiator up though may need to remove the top rad panel to do this to lift it far enough to get the pins in.

Fit your extended gear levers if your kit came with them and your done. :)

The only thing left which may require a bit of welding is raising your bumper to hide the gap left by the lift.

I made a custom winch bumper for the front. And still need to sort the rear. Although it has been lifted 2" by welding a couple of tabs to the bumper mounts to lift it up.

If you get stuck at all whilst doing it give me a shout and I'll do my best to help. :)

Wicked cheers mate.... Ive only got the spacers and bolts so far as im struggling to find the other extended bits i need?

Almost forgot you need to undo the bolts on your steering rod from bulkhead to PS pump before attempting to lift the body up. :doh:


Extended gearstick levers can be bought on eBay. I need some so have looked. :eek:

I'm not sure if any other bits are available unless you buy the full kit. They probably are but I've not looked for them.

Other than that you could get creative.

Some threaded bar to extend the body anchors yourself (exactly what I done) is possible. If no access to threaded bar cut the head off of a bolt and use that and weld it to the original anchor to make it longer.

Rad pins could be made just as easily. Like welding a nut onto a piece of round bar. So the rad will sit in the nut and the bar will fit in the holes in the chassis.
I made some rad pins up on a lathe at work.


Another good thing to do is make a 2" dropper plate for the fuel filter as the lines look a little tight for my liking in its standard position. But this is simple just a 3" square play with 4 holes in it. :)

Cheers for the advice mate! Ive also read the you have to modify the fuel filler neck??
