Hey guys,

While researching for my LED light pod project I came across these and to be perfectly honest they look like they're better than anything I could come up with!

RIGID INDUSTRIES LED LIGHT BARS - YouTube

You can get them in the UK but they aren't dirt cheap but less than good lamp spotlights. Anyone seen them in action? I think that one short one or two small ones mounted in the nudge bar and then a long one between the roof bars would luck ultra cool and would be really wasy to fit. Pix fitted to a D3:

Might look into getting some down the link :).

I've got them on my light bar. They're phenomenal and nothing else come close, in my opinion.

One of the VERY FEW UK sellers: Zen Overland - Rigid Industries products.

I had mine imported. Should of worked out a LOT cheaper but only turned out to be a BIT cheaper after the b**tards raped me for import tax.

Ta for that Mark! Which ones have you got on your light bar? They vary in price quite a bit !! Got any pics of normal full beam vs spots :)?

Are the prices for real? £500 for the big one! I would rather spend £50 on 4 work lights and keep the £450 for more important things!

The price is quite off putting. Maybe I'll see what I can do with an LED light pod after all ;).

yeah pricey, not sure if they are brighter than standard 55w bulbs. thought LED were cheaper to make, although non replaceable if one goes..

I think they're all mounted on PCB sockets so if one goes you can replace it. Be fooking useless else, shirley?

I'm looking into stock reflectors and LED clusters, if I can cobble one together that's half decent I'll design a sexy pod for vac form or GRP :). I've always thought the Hippo would look good with a properly styled one.

EDIT: Found some nice Cree LED's that are 1500 lumens each. Is that much? I Reckon I could fit 6 in a pod each with a 65mm reflector. I've no idea whether a 9000 lumen cluster would belt out much light . I understood candle power this is all new to me .

EDIT EDIT: Whoa the dually's are 1300 lumens each so fook me I better try these out then might really work !!!

don't get me wrong I like them, I'm all for LED lights, they look so much better and draw less power obviously, just the price is far too expensise consider that for the same price a 3D 50" LED telly can be in the front room!

I think your handy with vac forming you'll have lucrative market, especially in the freelander/disco areas to match the vehicle style. Even if its a personal one off, I'd love to see a custom pod.

Yeh the price really puts me off too I'd rather make my own. If I was going to pay £200 for a light system I'd want a nice looking one that put out more light. But we'll see, these guys know what they are doing :).

Generally I make stuff that is reproducable - I've done lots of cool stuff for myself and then people have started waving chequebooks at me so I've learned to make things duplicatable first time !!

sounds intersesting got a website or pics?

Mostly been model kits and such, but the methods used can be expanded to almost any kind of product manufacturing.

Gwylan Models - Resin Casting, Digital Modelling & Miniatures Design

Been doing alot of steel tooling lately for plastic injected kits for a big wargames company, the same principles apply to any injected product :).

In my workshop I only work with composites though, much cheaper setup cost :). But Vac forming is still viable for me as I can provide my own tooling which saves hunddreds if not thousands.

is this your work on this site?

Yep but nothing for sale right now giz a few months and I'll have some new stuff up. The site doesn't show much of my freelance work though, you can see one of my recent projects here:

Panther G Platoon (GBX66)

I designed all the plastic parts :). I do it all digitally so you get really good precision and perfect fits. The same techniques can be applied to bits for landy's :D!

In a few weeks time im hoping to have my 4x39W LED floods mounted as driving lamps onto my freebie. I will post some pictures up. Also got 2x27W on the front bumper ready to be wired.

Feck me, what a talent! seriously, I love making those Tank models (air fix stuff!!), I'm pretty sure using those skills to make moulded light pods, cb dash pods etc would make you a small fortune mate. don't wanna sound patronising but bloody well done, they look awesome.

Cheers :), I've done quite a few other frames for those guys I'm working on about 5 or 6 different kits right now keeps me real busy!! My and my good lady are about to move into a bigger place so I can have a proper workshop and office. So I'm pretty chuffed at how things are going, not to blow the old trumpet too loud like.

I'd love to make all sorts of Landy accessories, the trick is finding time - and money! Injection stuff is waaaaaaay out of my price league but GRP and vac form are doable. Just need to collect ideas and get a project finished :).

Those are my 2 x 24W on the back of my freebie at present as work lights. They are five times as bright as 55w wipac worklights at half the power draw. You can imagine what the 39's will look like.

Also got a 72W bar going down each side, but they are £90 each, so a lot cheaper than the rigid industries ones, but possibly not as bright, but we shall soon see. Picking them up on sunday so can do some test shots for you.

Nice! They are bright! What kind of beam angle would be diserable on a light pod? There are tons of reflectors to choose from with different beam angles :).
