Well as any of you who've seen pictures of the inside of my Defender would see I'm a big fan of Raptor Engineering's products and a couple of weeks ago I was on their site looking at bits for a full new electrical installation on a friend's Defender (which will be another tutorial later). Anyway I spotted a newish product and thought that it would look good and be really useful in my Landy so here it is, the glove box.

There is a space around the wiper motor which is normally wasted as you can do little with it and that is where the glove box goes:

So unpacking the glove box you get some black screws, a pair of keys and the glove box itself. The glove box slots into place and is attached by three screws inside at the top and two screws at the front. You will need a drill and a small drill bit for the screws but that is it.

All in all, a very neat, useful and well priced little addition and it fits in nicely with the trim kit.

A nice set up. I've got the dash, pod and roof console in mine - all in black. To my mind, much better that the plastic alternatives. Not quite finished the wiring up yet - looking for an outside temperature gauge and have to fit heated mirrors and wire up the rear wash/wipe. Very pleased with the service from raptor - a great company.

raptor do a roof console?
 
They don't normally sell it under their own name. I rang them and they sold me one they had in stock. Worth a call to Phil or Julie.
 
It doesn't mess the vent up at all. The front vent control is still accessible and there are vents in the door of the glovebox to allow air through.

What do you need to finish for the wiring?
 
I was quite taken with the Raptor glovebox when it came out but unfortunately I had already moved my aux fuses & relays to that location so I couldn't go for it.
Previously they had been in the battery-box but that made the cable-lengths quite long, on a previous LR I had them in the cubby-box but didn't want to go back to that and I had already discounted putting them under the bonnet. The location chosen is a good compromise between function, reasonable cable runs and of course ease of access. Still miss that glovebox though!
Bought the new Raptor fusebox cover at Billing, just haven't got around to fitting it yet.

I have an Ebay special temperature gauge in my Raptor console (see photo above), been on for 3-years now and works great.
Comes with a long probe (2M) so I was able to mount it where it isn't affected my engine temperature (peeking out under the OS front wing between the inner & outer wheel-arches). 12V powered so no messing about with batteries, on a fused aux supply which is switched by the first position on the ignition-switch as per several other accessories.

Thanks, Litch. That's a possible if I can't get the round one - I've got a hole in the dash ready for it! I think I may have found a seller in Latvia cheaper than the prices I've been quoted so far. Cowasaki, the main thing I need is time. I'm planning to fit a rear wash/wipe: I've got a motor and some of the wiring is in place already. Also going to fit some roof lights, fog lights and heated mirrors. I've just finished the instruments, heated screen, heated seats etc etc but am going away very soon for 6 weeks, so no more will get done for a while.
 
That little space on the passenger side is the perfect size to store a few cassette tapes (am I the only one still using them?) and leaves the vents free. Normal glove box type stuff goes in the middle cubby box :D
 
There's quite a few in-car soft toys showing up in this thread. Cows, penguins, whatever next?

One thing I quite like is that LED light on a flexible stalk in Litch's picture. is that a Raptor item as well?
 
No shortage of storage space here. By some incredible coincidence, the 1990s 10-disc CD changer fits exactly into the cubby box.

There's space on the dashboard to store a couple of things close to hand. The cassette tape space is probably also more by chance than by design. (No furry animals in residence at the moment)

It is a Furby, not a penguin!

The flexible light is from Durite, LED with both white & red illumination available at the press of the switch (red does not upset your night vision like white).

Can't praise raptor eng enough. Ordered mine at donnington 4x4 show with my own custom layout and they did the cuts at the show price.
They delivered to my door in person within a week as promised.
I have the center console and dash and find all their products very well made and fit first time with clear and precise instructions.
I've been looking at the dash glove box but my only concerns are the size, bit on the small size, and the lock to close the lid.would like to see some kind of latch to hold it shut as well as the lock rather than have to lock it every time and either leave the key in or hunt round every time you need to open it.
May very well get one and find and fit some kind of latch.
Has anyone who has got one found it a faff with the keys?
