Evening all.

Been lurking for a while now since picking up my 2003MY TD5 Disco a couple of months back. Few niggles, but nothing not to be expected on a 12 year old car with 160k on the clock.

However, having ignored the fact the reversing lights and sensors aren't working for this long, the thick fog has finally forced me to admit defeat and ask for assistance this evening after backing into the garden wall (minor scuff to the recently replaced arch spat!!!!)

Anyway, enough ranting, anyone got any suggestions on why these aren't working? I've done the obvious of checking the fuses, changing the bulbs and ensuring the previous owner hasn't unplugged anything connecting the sensors.

Hi, if it's manual the most suspect is the reverse switch on the gearbox...if it's auto and the R is displayed on the dash then it becomes more complicated

Sierrafery, good point I should have mentioned its an auto.

I'm seeing the letters on the dash, the lights around the changer are there and it drives fine. Just the lights and sensors arent working.

then check at C0484/C0102 cos corrosion is common there, the reverse signal is on the green/brown wire pin 11

Good luck, i pointed to that connector cos there the signal splits to reverse lights and parking aid circuit after the BCU, and as long as you have the R indication on the screen and the car runs normally it means the reverse signal from the XYZ switch is good cos it's common for these systems if you see what i mean

I popped down my mates garage this morning to sorted the front discs and pads, MAF sensor and oil pressure switch, and took the liberty of using his tools to take a look at the reverse light issue.

The connector you suggested Sierrafery is as clean as a whistle. So using a circuit tester tool on the light units, the lamps illuminate, and with the ignition on, the led on the parking sensor dash switch flashes repeatedly.

Any other suggestions?

I was hoping this would be an easy fix, but I feel I may have to get an auto-electrician involved

i don't understand, on what did you use the circuit tester? ... you should have checked on the reverse sensor's terminals with reverse selected to have closed circuit or connect the two pins together on the wiring there cos then it should be like with reverse selected if you see what i mean...that switch must close on reverse

I've got an identical issue so subscribed to see if an answer appears.

I've searched for a fuse to check and cannot find any info at all and no clues on the fusebox diagrams as to where is is.
