Hi,

Surprise surprise my P38 4.0L petrol YR 2000 has developed another problem - this time its the reverse sensors.

When i select reverse i get a long tone followed by 2 short beeps then nothing. In the past the beep would sound every 1/2 second or so as i reversed and then progressively get quicker as i neared an object.

Has anyone got any ideas as to what it may be ? or can anyone advise where i may find a circuit diagram - i have looked on many threads and also in RAVE but have not found anything.

Thanks in advance.

Fit a tow bar, when you hear the car behinds bumper crack it's time to stop.

Did P38s have reverse sensors as factory options?
Have you checked that these aren't an after-market set fitted by a previous owner?

When i had problems with mine on my last rr i just removed and fitted one of those kits off ebay!only cost £14 so cheeper than trying to repair

Not as far as i can see, not listed in accessories or options. So it will be after market system.

Have you seen these:

Look What I Found
It would be an aftermarket install....regardless of the fact he says the wiring was to neat to be local aftermarket etc....there are many installers who take great pride in there work and will splice and join with great skill to make it look like a neat job.

The P38 never had PDC as an option - but some decent aftermarket installers and bespoke coachworks would fit them if you paid them to do it!

Thanks all for your responses, i knew someone would have the answer - i think its a toss up between getting a tow bar fitted or lashing out £15 on fleabay.
Either way better than frigging around repairing what ive got.(must be aftermarket by previous owner)

thanks all.

A previous owner had fitted parking sensors to mine. An option well worth having in my book! If you do fit a different aftermarket system let us know what you went for and how you got on.

PO had them fiited on mine, a really good fitting but they left the display in the boot???
I ended up routing the cable through the headlining & positioned the display on top of the rear view mirror.

That's where my display is, just above the mirror. Works well and is nicely discreet as I don't normally favour aftermarket solutions to problems.

Lot of buggering about for something you don't need. If you can drive of course.

Zzzzzz. This boring old argument again.

I presume you have exactly the same opinion about power steering, assisted brakes and synchromesh? You don't need any if them if you can drive properly...

You can't hear the bleeps over the diesel engine so reverse sensors are generally exclusive to petrols ;)

No worries, the way things are going, soon you won't even have to drive as that will be automated too. Where is the fun in that?:(

Nothing boring about it, if you can drive you don't need reverse sensors. Do you have those little red balls on spring rods on your front wings to tell you when the gap is to small to get through as well? All the other things you mention are a refinement to aid drivability. Your mod is for those who are brain dead with the spacial awareness of a maggot. If you can't reverse park without them you should not be on the road.
