OK Just another problem that I have no Idea about.
My Rev counter If that's the correct name for it ? The large one on the left that has x1000r/min , does not work, the needle does not move. Speedo, temp, mileage counter and fuel gauge all work as they should. Is it something to do with having Boost Gauge fitted or should it work as well as the Boost ??
Thanks

Tacho works off the W signal wire on the back of the alternator, it is usually just a single white wire, not 100% on a 300Tdi as to whether they have a multiplug on the back as my 300Series was a V8 lol

Did it work before and after the boost gauge was fitted ? Or has stopped working independently

This is very common, take the lead off the back of the alternator, clean and tighten the connection and put it back on, Hey presto it'll probably work. Mine did!
Tachometer, also know as rev counter, as it counts the revs, revolutions, of the engine, per minute. Useful for timing gear changes.

Do you know anyone with a Nanocom. You can test it with that...
Aint got a clue what a Nancom is Mate :)

Sounds like it could be easy fix. Will try this tomorrow, if I get Daylight time.

A Nanocom is a diagnostic tool other ones often mentioned are Hawkeye and Foxwell Scantool. These are all plugged into the OBDll port and then you do what you need to do with them. None are cheap but if you have a Disco 2 you'll end up needing one.

Don't think they are anywhere near as necessary with a Disco 1. I never got one until I got a Disco 2, and I have owned my Disco 1 since about 2006. Never needed it, this vehicle is much more conventional and "old Skool". So don't worry about it. You'll sort your problem out without it.

Think you are right. (OP has a 1990 200 tdi.)

Sorry, missed that bit.... reading the forum on a phone...
...another reason why I don't have an iPhone or anything much like it. Mine is a Motorola flip-open thing with a titchy aerial. Only phone on it once in a while or text on it. No one knows the number, not even me!!!

Exactly as said. Cleaned wires on Alt and worked instantly, wished all my fixes were as easy as that.
Thanks Everyone for help. Will get round to my next fix Soon:)

Great! High five!
Now you have fun finding what revs in each gear makes for the smoothest change into the next one!

Be interesting to see how it works with the Boost Gauge. Not that I would know what to look for in the 2 o_O will have to watch a few youtube vids on them.

It will be even more interesting if you have a sports exhaust, which is the first thing I fitted and never regretted it.
