Hi,

I am looking to retrofit TV into my 30th anniversary 4.6 2001, just on the sat nav screen.

I have replaced my sat nav unit with one from a BMW E39 and its a direct fit except it doesnt have the off road maps. But seems as though the electrical systems are the same as many E39's it would be quite easy for me to get hold of the parts i require.

Just wondered, before i learn the hard way, if anyone else has had any succsess doing this?

I have the Alpine head unit and the HK sound system.

I think (not sure) the sat-nav screen is probably NTSC rather than PAL and will require an RGBsync feed from a digital tuner but other than that it should be possible. Probably need one of those shark-fin aerials in the roof, I guess.

I'm nearing completion of a project to fit a 7" android tablet into the dash. That would give you the ability to stream tv across a data connection or use things like iplayer to download and watch tv.

I'll try and post the link later but I have seen an adaptor that pairs off the sat nav feed I think and gives you lines for a VGA input that you can wire into a Digital TV receiver and an aerial that shows on the stock screen. I have sourced the TV unit box of tricks from a 2001 BMW E39 and as my sat nav unit is from the same car, with the TV option currently greyed out, I'm hoping it might just work.
Not keen on a shark fin however, I guess when they had TV in the early P38's none of the electrical gubbins would of been BMW-Esque?

That sounds interesting but i really want to keep the dash OEM looking so will have to make it work with the 4:3 screen. Let me know how you get on.
