Have read many posts on the above but not found the answer.
I raided the scrapyard today for a tailgate seal and other bits and found a 2004 1.8K with the factory low level coolant sensor - so I bought it and the plug and a long length of cable, but the wiring disappeared into the engine bay loom.

There is a loom available - part number YMQ501270
Can anyone confirm where the black and red wires go for the sensor to activate the low coolant light? I guess it goes to the engine ecu but no circuits can be found.
Also, does it need enabling in the software?

From memory, the red comes from the Ipack, and the black goes to earth.
I did look into this, but couldn't work out if the Ipack needed programming to make use of the warning light, but I suspect it does, as it would possibly need to light up for the ignition on bulb test.
 
Only thing I can find on the web is it goes to connector C2240. Except that there is not a connector with that number that I can find !!
 
I'll need to go back through my information to get it exact.
I'm pretty sure I'm right about the wiring, red comes from the Ipack, black simply goes to ground.
I'm unsure if the level switch is open or closed when the coolant is correct, and that would need to be tested to progress with testing what the Ipack does.

I'll look into it, I've got the information somewhere.
 
Thanks John, not sure what the sensor is. It is not a level switch just a plastic stick with 2 connections that sits in a tube in the additional container. No water touches it.

No resistance on pins either. Have asked suppliers of the loom which shows the connector and then 2 open ends with small pins on where it connects. So far all I have had is "it's a simple plug and play" !!

Anyone? The guy that told me it was simple plug and play doesn't know where it plugs and plays at all!!

Anyone got a LR instruction sheet?

That's the document I was looking for, but I'm sure mine was in English, not the it's difficult to follow.

It looks to indicate that it throws the engine warning light rather than a specific coolant low light or maybe that's an aftermarket option - those post included a (broken) link to a site that does not look to exist any more.

Post also mentions that bulletin, but only googling I could find was links to that Dutch? version.

English version must exist obviously, but that JRL topix site needs authorisation to view the docs.

It lights a coolant level lamp on the facelift and sends gauge to hot on pre-facelift.
I saw the linked thread, they didn't crack it either?

I believe it does the same on the facelift too. I don't remember there being a low coolant light, just a high temperature warning. It doesn't matter what alert type there is, as long as it's an alert.

Looks like you get both - roughly translated it says.............
1A574675 through 5A476242 When the coolant level reaches a specified limit, the temperature gauge pointer will move to a position in the RED field ("A" in the figure) and a warning lamp lights up (refer to the figure). See pictures in the above .pdf.
 
Hi, the sensor is in a separate pot just below the header tank. It appears to be a hall effect type with a magnetic ring that floats.

Have found the add on loom which goes the the ECU. just need T4 or summat clever to add it to the display.

Only on cause I activated it in software but I suppose it could be made to work

Interesting. I don't remember seeing that in my 05 TD4, not even the shadow of it.
Maybe it was added to the later Ipack?
 
Tried the WOW software which allows all instrument lamps to be tested.
On my 2003 pre facelift there is no low coolant lamp. However, on the 1.8 petrol I could light the glowplug lamp up !!!
So the device that I am fitting appears to just force the temp gauge over to HOT. That should get my attention !
