Looking at a landy which has been used by an agricultural contractor and has been registered as limited use so it could be used with free tax ,no mot and run on red diesel legally

If i bought it i would obviously need to tax ans mot it as well as drain out the red but spoke to the owner and he doesnt know the implications of me driving it home

Does anyone know if i could legaly drive it home (on white diesel) or is that out of the question and a trailer the only way ?

Ask at local main post office if they can change taxation class as now dvla closed offices.
I changed disabled to plg at post office and valid mot and insurance all they wanted.

Lets face it any second hand diesel may have had a tank of red in it.

If you purge the red for white and new filter, what's the problem.
 
Main issue here will be getting an mot on the bugger.

How longs it been an agri vehicle.

Soon as you take it 1.5km past the farmers land your driving without tax or mot , and you wont get tax without an mot cert.

I cant see any vehicle a farmers selling thats been on agri being mot standard without a few sheckles spent on it .... Or it wouldnt be for sale....
 
SEller wont get prosecuted for untaxed and un mot'd vehicle on the road , he has no vested nor legal interest to change it.

I have a discovery i bought for parts still on disabled taxation......albe it its a sorn from when i got it trailered back here.
 
guy seems genuine and he says its been kept road worthy (new cross member and disks/pads) as he has been using it to tow water and fuel bowsers and the price is right

I just wonder where i stand driving it on a motorway on the way home with valid insurance

If it is as good as you say, pay mot fee, walk into postoffice with valid insurance and get it changed to PLG
 
Im ok with moting and taxing it after iv got it home ,im asking where id stand driving it from his place to mine when/if i buy ?
 
Yep bottom line is black and white.

youshould not be driving it on the public highway and most certainly not a motorway without valid mot/tax and insurance and if caught will be prosecuted and recieve points + increased insurance premiums + the agro

Try shiply for a man with trailer to move it for you.

The "tax" no longer transfers, therefore unless exemption in your name- your get screwed
The exemption is within x miles of registered address- therefore outside this NO Exemption.

Stop messing about and either do as I previously stated or trailer it home.
 
As i thought just wanted to check before i hire a trailer ,now that i think about it tractors arent allowed on motorways at any time (i assume due to the lack of speed) but that may cause a problem with anpr cameras so looks like a trailer job

Correct.
One possible loophole could be to book an MOT the day you collect it, drive it straight to test station then straight home.
However if we are talking a journey that is longer than a few miles then they may not look favourably on it.
Best bet is a trailer.

15 miles maybe at a push

150 miles your get screwed
 
Can get a 12 x 6 ifor williams with ramps ,will i be ok for length as trailer has a headboard ,over hang at back will be fine

More importantly is it rated to carry your load and is the driver licensed, whole other can of worms but Vosa wont mind:rolleyes:

This is a common myth. Driving a vehicle without tax or MOT cannot invalidate insurance. In some circumstances it is legal to drive a vehicle on the road that does not have tax or MOT, however, a vehicle must have at least 3rd party insurance whenever it driven on the road, without exception. What you may find is that an insurance company will wriggle out of any claim for damage to your own vehicle in the event of an accident, but they must, by law, fulfil their obligations to any 3rd party if you are found to be liable.
