What condition would you consider to far gone to try to restore? I
would love to restore my jeep, but the body is in extremly bad shape.
The engine only has 44,000 miles on it, but the gas tank is rusted out.


The frame seems to be in good shape. What do you guys think and how
much money do you think it would take?

I have a 79 J20 that I have owned for over 20 years now that I plan to
restore too someday. I feel it is worth the effort as they are a very
rare breed these days. The biggest potentail problem is body parts as
driveline parts are not a big problem even today. Check out bone yards
for donor vehicles and the jeep pick was made until 89 and the cab is
unchanged except for grill and dash so it will fit your 77. Also old
fullsized Cherokees and Wagoneers 2 door models use same door so that
is interchangable too and they use same dash. Depending on weather it
is a automatic or manual will determine the options you have there
with driveline.

Too bad you're so far away - there is a junk yard in Abilene, TX with
20-25 J10's lined up, most in nearly complete configuration. Couldn't
believe it when I drove thru there one afternoon about year ago.

I may have to make a road trip over there if I ever get started fixing
it up. Sounds like a gold mine.

Let me know if you get a wild hair - I'll dig out the name and phone
number of the place for you. The way scrap prices have gone lately,
they may have changed things a bit and crushed them by now.
