Can a disco sport BMS be reset manually, or does it need plugged into do it, local Land Rover place wanted £80+vat to reset it.

It’s 75 inc vat for a new one. Cheaper to replace it than to rest set it.

Surely there must be a way to reset it manually.

Just an opinion based on how these things work on other vehicles cos i have no experience with disco sport: i dont think that a new BMS is just plug and play so even if you replace it a compatible diagnostic tool is needed as it's needed to reset the BMS if a new battery was fitted, i found this in the D sport's Wsm:

There are lots of aftermarket diagnostic tools that can reset the BMS - the BMS will also 'learn' you've replaced the battery over time, dependent upon use, this can take up to 45 days, so it depends upon how much you like Autostop.... only VWG vehicles need battery data to be inputted, pretty much everything else either needs a reset to zero throughput or leave it alone for a bit.

I’ve been told it’s definitely ok to swap. By the garage and there are some youtube videos on it, the only one I can remember is one by powerful.uk

I can see icarsoft tools can do it, it might be worth while just biting the bullet and getting one.

Personally I'd say at that end of the market, the Autel AP200 is a better bet - beware of grey imports & clones though.
