I snapped off my windscreen washer jet a few weeks ago. I thought about 'upgrading' as mentioned on here with fitted pipes on new wipers but I had a brand new washer jet in a bag already.
I searched on here on how to fit and it seemed it was a dash out job. On a google search I found a line saying it could be done via the ash tray but nothing more. Anyway, gave it a go and it did it in 20 minutes via the ash tray. Bit quicker than a dash out.

The tools I used..... a 13mm ratchet spanner, a long Phillips screw driver, a flat blade and a pair of curved scissor clamps I use when fishing and a small torch. A son, daughter or passer by is also needed.

The ash tray just pulls out but you cant see the back of the washer jet as the dash frame is in the way. You can can get 2 or 3 fingers in and feel the water pipe to the left and ease it off the back of the jet. It should have a black locking clip on to stop it being forced off under water pressure but leave this on.
You can then feel the long thread and at the bottom you will feel the brass nut that tightens it to the bulkhead. It is tricky but you can get your 13mm ratchet spanner over the thread and onto the nut. I used the curved clamps to hold the spanner inside and then got my fingers in drop it on. I held the spanner and my son was able to 'unscrew' the broken washer from outside.
The long Phillips is for when you drop the nut inside.... it can be dragged up the slope towards the ash tray opening.

Fitting the new one is pretty much the reverse... get your helper to pop the new washer through and get the new brass nut in place. They can tighten it up from the outside untill the final tweek is needed using the ratchet spanner. Getting the water pipe back on is okay, ease it down using fingers then with the flat screw driver you can just add more pressure till it is secure. Adjust spray and check for leaks in the ash tray area... job done.

NOTE.... The thread on my new washer was slightly different. So discard the old nut or you will have problems.

If one of the Mods wants to move this to the appropriate place thats fine.

Thanks for posting this mate; I've just replaced my windscreen wipers last week and I'm struggeling with my washers!

I started a thread about 2 weeks ago about this http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f7/windscreen-wipers-107099.html.

I've now replaced my wipers and fitted the washers that were connected to my wipers back on to the new wipers but instead of spraying water on the window it sprays in up on to the roof:doh:

I've ordered a washer jet of ebay:

I also read about having to take of the dash and was not really looking forward to that! So thanks for posting this; now I can have a go at this over the weekend:D

Why not put a pin in the nozzle and adjust the jet then??

I replaced the jet last year and had a go through the ashtray but gave up after five minutes and took the dash out. Its not that hard to do, a bit of a pain for such a small part but better than paying over a hundred quid on labour for a 50-p part.

Thought I'd have a go at fitting my new washer jet today.
I pulled out the old fittings:

I then took out the ashtray and pulled the tube through:

That was the easy bit.
I then plugged the new washer jet in thinking I'd simply screw the nut on:crazy:
After serveral attempts I got fed up; I couldn't get the nut screwed on as my fingers are too fat!
So I used some "garden tie cord"; cut off around 10 cm's, pushed that in the back of the washer jet. Then pushed it back in so that I could pull the cord out through the ashtray and slide the nut in place:

All I then had to do was make sure that the Jet was place in the right position and use one finger to push the nut on the bolt and screw it on!
Then forced the tube back on again and voila:D All this took me around a half hour.

All that was left then was adjusting the angle of the sprayers; this took me ages as I was fiddling with a needle.
Took me just over an hour to get it all right.
End result:

Thanks MrJC.

Just make sure you don't overtighten the washer jet nut as this will snap it in half and the jet will be catapulted over the bonnet!

I did this after I jet washed the car and it moved so I thought I needed to make it a bit tighter, which resulted in me having to buy another :/

the front washers are two piece, you can leave the part with the thread in place and change just the outer piece.

awesome, so glad i found this, was about to start dismatling the dash in the morning!

thanks!!

I can't see the problem with removing the top rail, it is removed in a matter of minutes giving you all the access you require? Remove grab handle, release heater controls & instrument cluster, undo top of the radio and the top-rail can then be unscrewed & lifted out. Easy!!!!!

The single twin-jet nozzle can be replaced with a pair of twin-jet nozzles in the two blanked off holes thereby doubling the amount of water hitting the screen, the standard motor delivers more than enough water and doesn't need to be upgraded so all you need is a new nozzle and a Tee piece. Did this to mine 10-years ago and it is a great & easy mod to do.

With regards to using a pin to adjust the jet, my old dad taught me many years ago to stick a pin into the edge of the sun-visor whenever I got another car as that way you ALWAYS have to hand the correct tool to clean and/or adjust the jet. Always done it and never regretted it.

Mine popped off a few weeks ago and began spraying water behind my dials. I started to unscrew the dash and then had a brainwave... lifted the ashtray and the pipe was there

Still a pig of a job trying to get it on and probably the most frustrating job I've ever done.

I had a quick look at that method and decided fcuk that . It did take a couple of hours to take the dash off and on but I could see and work on the problem without thinking of setting fire to the dam thing.

"It did take a couple of hours to take the dash off and on"

What????? How many cups of tea did you have while doing it?
You can see though that it is far easier when you have all that access, certainly saves fiddling around through the ashtray hole. Also if you have twin jets you don't have any choice anyway.

If your quoting me, I took no tea breaks just made sure that I knew where every screw and part went it came to putting it back togeather. I have it down to about an hour now but I've taken the dash off three times since. How can you expect anybody to be fast and do the job properly first time?
