Hey there,

I believe the thrust bearing has gone on my defender 90, rattling noise occasionly which goes when clutch is depressed or blip the throttle. Im not that mechanically minded so can anyone inform me on how to replace it?

also, I would like to fit a radio and have all the bits needed, just don't know where is the best to get power for it? somewhere in the steering column?

thrust bearing requires the prop shaft and gearbox removing. changing the bearing is fairly simple. then reinstall box and shaft.
maybe a good idea to change the whole clutch assembly whilst you have the box off?

good idea to check prop uj,s at the same time.

Hi to fit a radio you need a permanent live and a switched live, if you want the radio to switch off when you switch off the car. It would be advisable to get power from wires which are already fused, so getting power directly from the fuse box should be the easiest.

i would still put an inline fuse into the feed wire, as well.

i mounted my cd player in my cubby box with all the wires going out of the bottom (Neat little job) through a rubber grommet in the floor and into the battery box. I used an inline fuse which is advisable because when I jumpstarted my truck on a cold morning I blew the fuse in the radio! could have been much worse. Mounting the radio in the cubby box is a far simpler, neater and more secure option as light fingered blighters can not see your radio.

Hi,

Now I'm not an expert by a long way, but if it is rattling when you are not pressing the clutch pedal then it seems to me it is not the release bearing, which is disengaged until you use the clutch. There is no limit to the number of things that could rattle. Mine is usually the handbrake, makes a hell of a noise if I put it on gently, not when it is tight. And everything else of course!

So my suggested solution is to fit the radio and turn it up loud!

trust me, release bearings rattle when you don't press the clutch and stop when you press the clutch, like you said, you aint an expert
