Hi all

My Hevac unit lcd screen is basically knackered, shows stuff as and when it feels like it, yet still fully functions. My auto electrician says I need a new Hevac unit, but they're expensive. He's never swapped one before but says it should be straight forward.

The only thing he was wary about, is when he phoned up to price up a new/used Hevac unit, the guy on the phone says it has to be coded into the Ecu? Is this correct?

If so, how is it done? I don't want to get a second hand unit that works to find out I can't code it to my Range!

Thanks

Richard

If there are no faults with the system, No it does not recoding to the BECM, it's a straightforward plug & play.

Whilst its not coded to the BECM,if you fit a replacement Hevac ecu it is preferable to set it up with Testbook. This way you can set LHD/RHD and do a blend flap tune. The LHD/RHD bit I think sets the bias toward the drivers side temp input if it is requested more than about 6 degrees than the passenger. Not doing the blendtune could result in the book symbol appearing if the flaps dont travel as far as the ecu thinks they should when the system boots up.(Esp if the heater box has shrunk and the distribution flap is stiff.)
It also is good to see as live data all the sensor inputs to the ecu to make sure they are plausible.
