hi just wondered how easy it would be to swap the big ugly freelander1 bumper with a bumper off the freelander 1 facelift model
cheers

why didnt you just buy a facelift model if ya think its big n ugly?????

Beside you'll need new lights maybe wings too and I dunno if the mountings are the same, pointless in my view.

Been there done that. It's more involved than it looks and it's more expensive than you'd think!

Front.
Lights, bumper, crash pad, light plugs and wire tail, plastic mount below headlamp for bumper x2, alloy belly pan frame is different I kept original and fixed new bumper to it, you have to cut out original light mounts and make new ones to get the lamps in, bumper you need to decide if you want fogs or not as they cannot be retro fitted it's a different bumber, bumper needs painting mines vinyl wrapped! Then you need to replace your arches or colour them to match

Rear.
Bumper, 4x lights, plugs with tails, crash pad, tailgate lower trim, feckin big hammer! The rear body is a slightly different shape, the bumper won't go on and the lights won't go in without quite a bit of er gentle persuasion with a big hammer, none of its visible after the bumpers on but it takes a long time beating fitting removing beating fitting removing and so on

I'm well chuffed with mine, I kinda blundered in bought what I thought I needed then discovered I couldn't do it properly with out more bits, some bits are cheaper new from land rover than second hand off eBay,

If you want to know more just ask. Mines a 2001, it would've cost me far more to get a facelift one than it did to build it, just look into prices and think about how much you like cutting and beating your body before you take the plunge. If you want to see mine you're more than welcome. I'm from Nottingham.

I still want to do my interior, and convert the back to a van!

Fair play to DD I've seen his Freelander up close and it's really pretty - goes to show what you can do with the car. I'm going to put the light guards and nudge bar on mine soon but tons of sub-surface rennovation yet to do.
