Hi folks, I'm fairly new to Disco ownership though have watched this forum for a few years.

I live in N Ireland and bought a nice 98 Tdi auto last year near Kidderminster. It seemed much better than average, 100k miles, excellent original boot floor and generally tidy. I'm a bit of a perfectionist so have since done minor repairs to rear arches and one inner wing.

My query is that I have found the ride to be a bit "boaty" for want of a better description. I bought a new pair of Armstrong front shock absorbers but when I was preparing to fit them, the old ones seem much firmer than the new units. I recently fitted new shockers on a 1976 Vauxhall car and they were also much firmer. Perhaps my test is totally inadequate but I would expect that a large Disco would have strong shock absorbers. This is intended to be a road car, little off road driving so I don't want to uprate unless entirely necessary.

Any comments/ advices please.

I can only say that I recently fitted new oem spec britpart springs and shocks all round and they made a huge difference. I was also a bit suspicious of how they felt off the car but that would appear to have been irrelevant. With some replacement bushes etc the car steers where you point it which is refreshing and the suspension seems to be doing its job very well. No more bouncing, feels pretty well sorted.

Thanks for that, I was doing other work but couldn't get the lower mounting bolts loosed at the time. Will have another go to try and fit them. I also found the probable cause of the wallowing today, one rear shock has broken away from its lower mounting so I'll be replacing the rears as well.
 
That won't help that's for sure!

Mine were mismatched on the rear and were and truly rotton up front. I had a spanner on the bottom nut, fully extended the shock and then used a set of stilsons to turn the shock itself. Took ages!
