Evening Ladies and Gents,

I'm relatively new to Land Rovers and an looking for some help. Earlier this year I bought a 2002 Range Rover Vogue which had been converted to run on Petrol and LPG. Almost a year later the engine has gone (approx. 90 000 miles) due to it over heating and the pistons marking the bores quite significantly. I've had a few local garages look at it and two Land Rover specialists who have all more or less said I need to replace the engine due to the damage.

Now, the questions;

1. Are replacement engines generally reliable (obviously it depends on the condition of the engine, but as far as one-for-one'ing it?) or do they suffer from complications. Or would I be better scrapping the car and starting again (NON-LPG!!) - I'm loathed to do this as she is a beautiful piece!

2. Can anyone recommend a breaker/dealer where I can get a replacement engine (she a new style 4.4 V8 Vogue L322).

3. Does the engine have to be exactly the same or can it be a lower CC (still a V8)?

Any help is appreciated.

Cheers

you can also look for discovery 3s with the same engine - check ebay

As far as I was aware they never did the disco 3 with the BMW 4.4 engine?!

Anyway, unlike older p38 range rovers, the l322 v8 engines were generally trouble free.

As such, if you can find one low mileage and without gas conversion then it will most likely be fine to just drop straight in.

You must get an engine out of an l322, the BMW saloon car variant of the engine is different.

There will be PLENTY of damaged range rovers in scrap yards with good engines available, hopefully won't be too difficult to track down.

I advised my pal not to buy one that was LPG because they run hot enough already.

Cheers, sam
